Gertrude (Trudie) Bruhn was born January 28, 1919 in Concordia, Missouri, the daughter of Julius and Maria (Junklaus) Roepe. As an infant Trudies family moved to a farm south of Concordia. They later moved to Emma, Missouri.
On December 31, 1939 Trudie was united in marriage to Herbert Schlickelman in Emma, Missouri. The couple moved to Iowa in March of 1940 and then to Ruthven in 1950. To this union five children were born. Herbert passed away May 1, 1992.
Trudie worked at Woolworths and Coast to Coast in Spencer. She also worked at the Ruthven Community Care Center. She worked with the Ruthven Dinner Date program and as a licensed in-home care giver.
On November 17, 2001 Howard Bruhn and Trudie were married at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg. They made their home at Cylinder.
Trudie was an active member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church where she served on the finance and endowment fund committee. Trudie was also an active member of Circle and LWML. She also enjoyed playing cards and crocheting. Trudie died Tuesday, January 10, 2006 at the Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at the age of 86. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Herbert; three brothers, Homer, Herbert and Ralph; three sisters, Mildred, Evelyn and Lorna; a son,, Roger Schlickelman; son-in-law, Richard Berger; and three grandchildren, Michael Enger, Kathy Enger and Ricky Fuller..
She is survived by her husband, Howard of Cylinder, IA; four daughters, Wanda (John) Briemhorst of Jordan, MN, Lois Enger of Marshalltown and Emmetsburg, IA, Glenda Fuyller of Spencer, IA and Dawn (David) Lysacker of Pelican Rapids, MN; fifteen grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; five step children; twelve step grandchildren and eight step great grandchildren; five sisters, Mrs. Ed (Minerva) Tebbenkamp, Mrs. Walter (Mabel) Dedeke, Mrs. Lloyd (Ruth) Tebbenkamp, Mrs. Richard (Alleen) Hurd, and Mrs. Home (Claudine) Petty; as well as many other relatives and friends.
