Verna Annette Hanna, daughter of Bert and Carrie Amelia (Hanson) Anderson, was born July 9, 1916 in Jack Creek Township, Palo Alto County, Iowa. She received her education in Graettinger.
During high school Verna worked at the Graettinger Bakery and at her father’s produce.
On August 14, 1933 Verna was united in marriage to Carl Oscar Hanna in Fairmont, Minnesota. To this union three children were born. Verna operated the Ruthven bakery with her brother-in-law, Eldon Hanna. She later was employed at the school where she cooked in the cafeteria. Verna and Carl loved attending dances as well as spending time with their family.
Verna died Saturday, September 2, 2006 at the Spencer Municipal Hospital at the age of 90. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl on March 21, 1987; two grandsons; one great grandson; four sisters, Arlene, Alice, Ruth and Lois; and an infant brother, Bertinus.
She is survived by her children, Lavonne Mason and her husband, Tom of Ruthven, IA, Darlene Miner of Ruthven, IA and Jim Handy who was a very dear friend of Verna’s; and Dorie Monselle of Ruthven, IA; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; a brother, Donald Anderson of Delmar, IA; a sister, Genevieve Christensen of Graettinger, IA; as well as many other relatives and friends.
