Dale W. Howard, son of A.A. and Leona (Kress) Howard, was born August 22, 1931 in Emmetsburg, Iowa. He received his education at Emmetsburg Catholic School and in Ayrshire. Following his education Dale served in the United States Navy from 1952 until 1956. He served on an aircraft carrier during his years of service. He was honorably discharge in 1956.
On September 12, 1955 Dale was united in marriage to Georgie M. Douglas at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Emmetsburg, Iowa. To this union three daughters were born.
Dale was employed at Boggess Sand and Gravel and later went to work for the City of Emmetsburg where he served as Street Commissioner until his retirement in 1994.
Dale was a member of the V.F.W. Post #2295 in Emmetsburg. He loved being with his family and especially his grandchildren. He looked forward to his “coffee breaks” each day with his friends. Dale was an avid reader of Western novels and always looked forward to going fishing.
Dale died Saturday, April 21, 2007 at his home in Emmetsburg, Iowa at the age of 75. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Lloyd and Dean Howard.
He is survived by his wife, Georgie of Emmetsburg, IA; his children, Cindy Daum and her husband, Roger of Emmetsburg, IA, Beth Gifford of Fort Dodge, IA and Colleen Howard-Wahls and her husband, Denis of St. Petersburg, FL; four grandchildren, Aaron Daum, Jamie Daum, Annie Daum and Brittany Wahls; his sisters, Alelia Fell of Rockford, IL, Norma Buscherfeld of Sibley, IA, Phyllis Zeman of Rolfe, IA, Sharon Firkins of Emmetsburg, IA, Patricia Madson of Emmetsburg, IA and Virginia Huberty of Emmetsburg, IA; as well as many other relatives and friends.
