Donal Arlen Anderson, son of Alfred and Agnes (Hulsman) Anderson, was born May 5, 1934 southwest of Ruthven, Iowa. He received his education in Ruthven and while in high school, Don pitched for the Ruthven High School baseball team.
On January 24, 1953, Don was united in marriage to Shirley Westergard at Zion Lutheran Church in Ruthven, Iowa. To this union three children were born.
Don did carpentry work for many years, working in Des Moines and Ames areas as well as in Spencer and Ruthven. Don and Shirley retired and made their home on Lost Island Lake.
He was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed watching the Twins, the Vikings and Green Bay. Don went pheasant and duck hunting and always found time to go to Lakeland to meet his friends for coffee.
Don passed away Friday, October 30, 2009 at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, at the age of 75. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jim and Dean Anderson; and one sister, Mary Louise Carey.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley of Ruthven, Iowa; his children, Gary Anderson and his wife, Joanne of Brookings, South Dakota, John Anderson and his wife, Soo Young of Bellbrook, Ohio and Robin Anderson of Spencer, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Donni Anderson, Janni Anderson, Nikki Anderson, Lauri Anderson, Colton Anderson, Casey Anderson and his wife, Amy, and Chris Anderson; one great granddaughter, Adalyn Grace Anderson; as well as many other relatives and friends.
