| | | Dr. Gary A. Allbritten, 95, Martinsville, died at 6:19 a.m. June 25, 2007, at Morgan Hospital and Medical Center in Martinsville.
He was born May 21, 1912 in Calloway County, Kentucky to Rev. Francis Harley Allbritten and Maggielee (Matheny) Allbritten, both deceased.
He married Mary Frances (Hern) Allbritten on April 21, 1934, who passed away May 1, 1999.
He is survived by two sons: Dr. Robert Allbritten of Marquette, MI and John M. Allbritten of Martinsville, two daughters: Rebecca Hodgin of Northbrook, IL and Mary Kaweck of Palm Harbor, FL.
Also surviving are two sisters: Eve Lewter of Plainfield, IL and Nancy Kenady of Sedro Woolley, WA, eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.
He was proceeded in death by two brothers: Robert Allbritten and Wade Allbritten, and one sister: Wilma Allbritten.
Gary moved to Indiana at an early age and attended Jackson High School in Westport, Indiana where he graduated in 1930. He then attended Franklin College, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY and the Northern Baptist Theological Seminary in Chicago.
On September 14, 1935 Gary was ordained to gospel ministry by the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Sardinia, Indiana. He served many churches throughout central and southern Indiana including; Freedom Baptist Church, Spencer First Baptist Church, Waynetown Baptist Church, Salem First Baptist Church, Peru First Baptist Church and Anderson First Baptist Theological Seminary, Chicago, Illinois. During his ministry he was an active evangelist holding numerous revivals throughout the Midwest and traveled to Jerusalem and the Holy Land. Dr. Allbritten was currently serving as Pastor Emeritus of the First Baptist Chruch of Martinsville.
He served as Past President of the Indiana Baptist Convention and Past President of the Baptist Homes & Hospitals in Zionsville, Indiana. He was actively involved in various civic organizations during his life and was a 33rd degree Scottish Rite Mason. He was a 50 year member of the Peru-Miami Masonic Lodge #67 in Miami County, Indiana and the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis.
Calling hours are Wednesday, June 27th at Neal and Summers from 5-8 pm and Thursday, from 9-10 am at First Baptist Church, 1109 E. Columbus Street, Martinsville.
Funeral Services are Thursday, June 28th at the First Baptist Church at 10 am.
There will be a private committal in Westport Cemetery, Westport, Decatur County.
