| | | Mary Lou (Baker) Amos, 80, a lifelong resident of Martinsville, died on Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at the Grandview Health & Rehabilitation Center.
She was born in Indianapolis on March 9, 1928 to the late Seth L. and Chrissie May (Pollard) Baker.
She graduated from Martinsville High School in 1946 earning the rank of class salutatorian.
Shortly after graduation she married Ulysses Samuel Amos on June 29, 1946. He preceded her in death on February 23, 1987.
She worked as an executive secretary at Diamond Chain in Indianapolis, retiring in 1988 after 29 years of employment with the company. She also took pride in volunteering her time at the Morgan County Hospital, and was named Volunteer of the Year in 1992.
She was a member of the Epsilon Chapter of Kappa Kappa Sigma, Martha Chapter #217 Order of Eastern Star and the Hospital Guild.
Mary was an ardent euchre player and also enjoyed reading, flower gardening and feeding and watching the birds.
Survivors include one son, Mike Amos of Martinsville; two daughters, Martha “Marti” Broyer of Martinsville and Karima (Patty) Amos of Bloomington; six grandchildren, Deb, Eric and Tim Broyer, Kathleen Robel, Jennifer Lanham and John Amos and six great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, John Baker and 2 infants; and one sister, Phyllis Sink.
Friends may visit on Friday, June 11th from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at Neal & Summers. A Celebration of Life Service will be on Saturday, June 12th at 10:30 AM at Neal & Summers.
