| | | Robert L. Baker, 80, Martinsville, died at 4:15 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2008, at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis.
Born January 4, 1928, in Morgan County, he was the son of the late Iliff and Inez (Murray) Baker.
He is survived by his wife, Elva F. (Thomas) Baker, of Martinsville.
He was a lumberman who owned and operated Mann Road Sawmill for approximately 40 years. He formerly owned and operated Baker and Sons Sawmill in Freedom, where he made Louisville Slugger bats. Prior to being in the lumber business, he was a well driller.
He enjoyed cutting wood and working in his sawmill.
Survivors include his wife, two sons, Rick and Rex Baker, both of Martinsville; three grandchildren, Jessie W. and Taylor R. Baker and Rick Baker Jr.; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jeremy Baker; two brothers, Howard Baker and the Rev. John Baker, and two sisters, Phyllis and Frances Baker.
The Celebration of Life service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 23rd at Neal and Summers Mortuary in Martinsville. The Rev. Barefoot will officiate.
Friends may visit on Tuesday, July 22nd from5:00 – 8:00 p.m. and from noon to 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary. Burial will be in Centennial Cemetery in Martinsville.
