Logan Bex, 83, Martinsville, died at 2:30 a.m.on Dec. 3, 2004, at Grandview Health & Rehabilitation Center.

The son of the late John Logan and Manie (Terrell) Bex, he was born Sept. 28, 1921, in Williams, Ind. He was the widower of Betty Rose (Bolton) Bex, whom he married April 1, 1945, in Bedford. She died April 19, 1997.

Bex worked as a coal sampler for Indianapolis Power & Light Company from August 16, 1956 to Dec. 14, 1983.

He was a member of Morgan Street Church of Christ in Martinsville and served during World War II in the United States Air Force as a corporal from Dec. 29, 1942 to Feb. 22, 1945.

He enjoyed gardening and was a spectator at 53 consecutive Indianapolis 500 races.

Survivors include two sons, Gregory Logan Bex, Martinsville, and Michael Bex, Charleston, S.C.; three brothers, Raymond and Robert Bex, both of Bedford, and Russell Bex, Columbus, Ind.; three sisters, Lucille Williams, Bloomfield; Ruth Hutsell, Indianapolis, and Sarah Bright, Anderson; five grandchildren, Kattie L. Hanner, Kitte L., Allen, Jessica A., and Bradley Logan Bex, and Brandy L. Darlington, and three great-grandchildren.

Two sisters, Grace Doane and Ida Trueblood, and three brothers, Dennis and Glen Bex and an infant brother, also preceded him in death.

The service will be 11:30 a.m. Monday at Neal & Summers Mortuary in Martinsville. The Rev. Carl Williams will officiate. Burial with military rites will be in Nebo Memorial Park Cemetery in Martinsville.

Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday and from 10:30 a.m. until time of the service Monday at the funeral home.
