Allene L. Allen, 86, Martinsville, died at 6 a.m. June 14, 2005, at her residence.

The daughter of the late William Jesse and Tressy O'Lela (Mull) Lighter, she was born Aug. 17, 1918, in Spencer. She was the widow of Col. Albert E. Allen, whom she married Jan. 19, 1941. He died Nov. 26, 2001.

Allen was a homemaker.

She was a 1936 graduate of Martinsville High School and a member of First Baptist Church, Order of the Eastern Star 217 and Kappa Kappa Sigma Sorority.

She loved time spent with her family, her church, and eight friends from Bridge Club, whom she had played with for over 50 years. She also enjoyed traveling and entertaining.

Survivors include two daughters, Pamela K. Lanham and Kathy A. Morris, both of Martinsville; three grandchildren, Chad and Kyle Morris and Lori Spears, and four great-grandchildren.

Three brothers, Kenneth Mull, and George William and Richard Daniel Lighter, and three sisters, Kathryn and Susan Elizabeth Allen and Marietta Norman, and a grandson, Richard Allen Lanham, also preceded her in death.

The service will be 2 p.m. Friday, June 17, 2005, at Neal & Summers Mortuary in Martinsville. The Rev. Eric Kersey will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Martinsville.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 16, 2005, and from noon until time of the service Friday at the mortuary.
