| | | William C. "Bill" Bastin, 62, Largo, Fla., died at 2:50 a.m. on July 4, 2005, at the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis.
The son of the late Chester C. and Lela B. (Hoke) Bastin, he was born Jan. 20, 1943, in Martinsville. His wife, Judy (Dugan) Bastin, whom he married Aug. 16, 1986, survives.
Bastin was a retired self-employed truck driver.
He was a 1991 graduate of Ivy Tech with an associate degree in human services.
He was a United States Army veteran, serving from Aug. 22, 1959 to Feb. 21, 1960. He also served in the National Guard for several years.
He was a member of Northwest Tampa Church of Christ in Tampa, Fla., and an avid Jeff Gordon NASCAR fan.
Other survivors include a son, Greg Bastin, Beech Grove; daughter, Christina Massey, Lawrence; three stepsons, Chuck and Mark Dawson, both of Indianapolis, and David Dawson, Florida; two stepdaughters, Deanna Fahrenkamp, Indianapolis, and Beth Lowe, Fairland, Ind.; brother, Dennis Fred Bastin, Junction City, Kansas; sister, Bonnie Sample, Paragon; five grandchildren; 15 step-grandchildren, and three step-great-grandchildren.
A brother, Richard Bastin, and a sister, Elizabeth "Betty" Collier, also preceded him in death.
A celebration of life service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 10, 2005, at Neal & Summers Mortuary in Martinsville. The Rev. Pat Davis will officiate. The body will be cremated.
There will be no visitation.
