| | | Richard C. “Dick” Anderson, 70, Martinsville, died at 8:50 p.m. Jan. 2, 2006, at his residence.
The son of the late Charles L. and Mary E. (Payton) Anderson, he was born Dec. 30, 1935, in Valley Park, Mo. His wife, Betty (Christie) Anderson, whom he married April 18, 1959, survives in Martinsville.
Anderson had worked at Hyatt’s Automotive in Martinsville and Federal Mogul in Mooresville.
He was a 1954 graduate of Martinsville High School and a member of the American Horseshoe Pitchers’ Association.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving from Sept. 20, 1954 to Sept. 5, 1958, and Feb. 6, 1967 to Feb. 1, 1969.
He enjoyed mushroom hunting, coin collecting, horseshoe pitching and spending time with his family.
Other survivors include a son, Richard Keith Anderson, Martinsville; daughter, Paula Anthis; Martinsville; four grandchildren, Corey and Cassidy Anthis and Garrett and Carson Anderson; three sisters, Betty Cure, and Lavonne Sims, both of Martinsville, and Pat Wilson, Mesa, Ariz.
Two brothers, Charles “Peck” and Donald E. Anderson, and three sisters, Justine Denney, Phyllis Jones and Barbara Koger, preceded him in death.
The service will be 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6, 2006, at Neal & Summers Mortuary in Martinsville. Phil Deckard will officiate. Burial will be in New South Park Cemetery in Martinsville.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, 2006, and from 1 p.m. until time of the service Friday at the mortuary.
