James William Barber Sr., 72, Martinsville, died at 3:40 a.m. on Feb. 2, 2006, at his residence.
Born March 20, 1933, in Blountstown, Fla., he was the son of the late Carlos Norman Barber and Erma Mae (Dorch) Barber Gandy. He married Patricia (McFadden) Barber on May 9, 1978. She survives, residing in Martinsville.
He retired from GM Truck and Bus in Indianapolis, where he was an industrial electrician.
He was a member of VFW Post 1257 in Martinsville. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
He enjoyed trains, western movies, John Wayne, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was an avid electrician.
Other survivors include four sons, James W. Barber Jr. and Carl Barber, both of Mooresville; Danny Barber of Paragon and Randy Barber of Martinsville; a daughter, Gloria Weber of Greenwood; a stepson, Mike Waddell of Mooresville; two stepdaughters, Debbie Ellis of Paragon and Jan Weddle of Spencer; 22 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A sister, Elouise Hunter, preceded him in death.
The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006, at Neal & Summers Mortuary. Rev. Mike Ellis will officiate.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday one-hour prior to the service at Neal & Summers Mortuary.
Burial will be at West Ridge Cemetery in Indianapolis.
