| | | James R. Baker, 87, Martinsville died at 7:30 a.m. Oct. 30, 2006, at his residence.
Born Feb. 8, 1919, in Paragon, he was the son of the late James Robert and Edna (Williamson) Baker.
He was the widower of Eva Elizabeth (Easton) Baker, whom he married Nov. 28, 1960. She died Sept. 5, 1985.
He was a retired custodian from Indiana University. Previously he was a truck driver delivering movies.
He was a graduate of Paragon High School.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving as a staff sergeant during World War II.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, IU basketball and NASCAR racing.
Survivors include three daughters, Diana Daniels of Apache Junction, Ariz., Paula Jines of Bloomington and Mary Lou Stricker of Martinsville; three sons, Gary Myers of Clay City, David Myers of Ironton, Mo., and Mike Myers of Martinsville; 11 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lester and Rupert Baker; a sister, Ruemma McGuire, two grandchildren and two greatgreat-grandchildren.
The funeral will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Neal & Summers Mortuary in Martinsville.
Burial will be in New South Park Cemetery in Martinsville.
Visiting hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary.
