Joan F. (Knipstine) Hyde, 81, a resident of Martinsville, IN died at 5:30 AM on Sunday, August 2, 2009 at The Waters of Martinsville.

She was the daughter of Iva Frances (Knipstine) Hill. She was born on December 17, 1927 in Morgan County, Indiana.

On December 31, 1985 she married James Vernon Hyde. He preceded her in death on November 8, 1997. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Pearcy.

During her life she held many jobs. Most recently, she worked at the Busy Bee Pantry in Martinsville until she retired in 2003. Previous to the Busy Bee, she had worked 18 years at Staggs Drug Store in Martinsville and at Poe’s Cafeteria. She had also worked at PR Mallory’s and Western Electric in Indianapolis.

Joan will be remembered by many for her love of dancing and visiting with friends at local restaurants. She was proud of her heritage and loved her hometown of Morgan County. She also enjoyed working word puzzles and meeting new people.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Linda Kay (Fowler) and Jerry Joe Johnson of Anderson; four grandchildren, Rodney Johnson of Anderson, IN, Sondra Majors of Chesterfield, IN, Eric Johnson of Fishers, IN and Randy Johnson of Florida; seven great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her only sibling, Floyd “Junior” Hacker.

Family and friends of Joan are encouraged to visit on Wednesday, August 5th from 12 Noon – 3:00 PM at Neal & Summers Funeral and Cremation Center, 110 E. Poston Rd., Martinsville. Rev. Pat Davis will conduct a service celebrating Joan’s life beginning at 3:00 PM. Burial will follow in New South Park Cemetery in Martinsville.
