| | | Janet D. Moore, 77, a lifelong resident of Martinsville, died at her residence at 4:28 PM on Tuesday, August 4, 2009.
She was born on February 24, 1932 in Martinsville, Indiana to the late Lawrence Thomas and Lois (Arnold) Carmichael.
On January 23, 1978 she married Melvin Richard Moore. He preceded her in death on January 1, 2004.
Janet was an active member of both the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post #230 and the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary Post #1257 in Martinsville. She had served as the past President and District Sergeant of Arms of the American Legion Auxiliary.
During the mid 1960’s she worked at RCA in Bloomington. In the late 1960’s through the early 1970’s, she worked at the Indiana State Highway Garage. She then went to work for a short time at the Paragon Elementary School before accepting a position with Chevrolet during the late 1970’s. During the 1980’s she began working at Allison’s in Indianapolis where she remained until her retirement in 1992.
She is survived by her five daughters, Nanette Bert of Mooresville, Teresa Hayes of Pensacola, FL, Melissa Brinson, Nina Nail and Heidi Davis all of Martinsville; one brother, Malcolm Thomas of Paragon; 11 grandchildren; 6 step grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; 6 step great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, step-father, Elvin Carmichael and 1 granddaughter.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Thursday, August 6th from 12 Noon – 3:00 PM at Neal & Summers Funeral and Cremation Center in Martinsville. Rev. John Hall will conduct a private graveside service at Union Cemetery in Paragon, Indiana.
