Luria Ernell Drake, 87, of Martinsville passed away on Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at 12:45 p.m. at her residence.

Luria was born in Ennis, Kentucky on January 25, 1922 to the late Dave and Arrie (Buchanan) Fleming.

She spent her childhood in Kentucky where she attended a one room schoolhouse through the 8th grade and was a member of the Union Chapel Baptist Church in Ennis, KY.

On February 1, 1938 she married Scott Frances Drake. He preceded her in death on January 31, 2006.

In 1949 she and her husband moved to Martinsville. In 1956 they became co-owners of Drake’s Grocery until 1975.

She took pride in her flower gardens and above all, she enjoyed her family.

She leaves behind two daughters, Helen Drake-Frisbie and Linda Lou Davidson, both of Martinsville; one sister, Dorothy Drake of Gary, IN; 17 grandchildren; several great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Chester Ray Drake; one daughter, Betty Jean Arney; three brothers, Homer, Wilbert and Bill Fleming; and five sisters, Nora Clevenger, Hallie Shelton, Lestie O’Dairel, Augusta Pully and Audrey Dillingham.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Thursday, September 17, 2009 from 6-8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Friday at Neal & Summers Funeral and Cremation Center in Martinsville. Pastor Kidney Vey will officiate a Celebration of Life Service on Friday at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in New South Park Cemetery in Martinsville.
