William “Bill” Mercer Lowrey, III, 68, of Martinsville, passed from this life on October 4, 2009 at his residence.

He was born November 14, 1940 to the late William Mercer Lowrey, II and Eline (Alsup) Lowrey in Cleveland, Tennessee.

He married his wife Mason (Hamlet) Lowrey on March 21, 1959 in Virginia; she resides in Martinsville, IN.

He also leaves behind one son; William Mercer Lowrey, IV, Martinsville, IN, one brother; Robert Dean Lowrey, Georgia and one sister; Vivian Ann Robertson, South Carolina. He was predeceased by his parents and one brother; John Randall Lowrey.

Mr. Lowrey lived in Morgan County for the past 19 years, moving from Pennsylvania. He spent over 40 years in the textile and clothing industry as a designer and later a quality control director. He traveled all over the world as a quality control director and spent many years in design, working for Sears, Montgomery Ward and Brylane.

He was a member of International Toastmasters and a graduate of Blackstone High School with the Class of 1958 in Blackstone, VA. He served in the US Army from 1958 thru 1961. He was a gun enthusiast; ham radio operator (KB9AG), professional photographer and he enjoyed computers & motorcycles. Mr. Lowrey especially enjoyed history and the civil war era and racing sports cars.

Friends may visit Thursday, Oct. 8th from 4-6 pm at Neal & Summers Funeral & Cremation Center, Martinsville. A celebration of life service will begin at 6:00 pm with family & friends to share memories. Cremation will be the final disposition.
