| | | James K. McNeely, 69, of Martinsville passed from this life on Friday, October 30, 2009 at 4:10 AM at the Select Specialty Hospital in Beech Grove.
He was born on April 24, 1940 in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Charles William and Leanah B. (Kern) McNeely.
Jim graduated from Arsenal Tech High School with the class of 1958. He then attended Purdue University where he obtained his bachelor’s degree in Industrial Arts Education in 1963. During the late 1960’s he went back to school at Ball State University to attain his master’s degree.
On January 30, 1960 he married Carolyn L. (Parsons) McNeely. She survives in Martinsville.
He spent 15+ years at Allison’s Transmission/G.M. in Indianapolis as a quality control engineer and retired from there in April 2005.
He served as past president of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) Findlay, Ohio Chapter, as well as, past chairman of the SME Ohio Valley Region. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Martinsville, where he served as an Elder and member of the church choir.
On his spare time, he enjoyed reading and singing.
Jim leaves behind a host of family and friends to include his wife of nearly 50 years, Carolyn L. McNeely; son and daughter-in-law, Charles R. & Debra McNeely of Bloomington; sister and brother-in-law, Martha Lee & Donald Wian of New Whiteland, IN; brother-in-law, Raymond A. (Barbara) Parsons of Hanover Park, IL; and two grandchildren, Andrew J. and Elizabeth M. “Emmy” McNeely of Bloomington.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Barbara Louise McNeely in 1975.
Family and friends are encouraged to visit on Monday, November 2nd from 4-8:00 p.m. at Neal & Summers Funeral and Cremation Center and on Tuesday, November 3rd from 10-11:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church, 89 S. Main St. in Martinsville. Dr. Mark Poindexter and Rev. John Kixmiller will co-officiate a celebration of life service at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 3rd at the First Christian Church. Following a bereavement meal at the church, there will be a committal service and burial at 3:00 p.m. in Lincoln Memory Gardens in Whitestown, Indiana.
