Dewey Lonzo Pitman, 86, of Martinsville passed from this life on Monday, November 2, 2009 at 7:30 a.m. at Grandview Health & Rehabilitation Center in Martinsville.

He was born on May 16, 1923 in Rockcastle County, Kentucky to the late Dewey Houston and Della Mae (Griffin) Pitman.

On November 17, 1943 he married Clawdell (Cooper) Pitman. She preceded him in death on December 19, 2003.

Dewey was a crane operator for Olin Brass in Indianapolis for 33 years, retiring in 1987.

He was a member of the American Legion Post #230, V.F.W. Post #1259 and the Martinsville Moose Lodge #1127 and enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting and shooting pool.

He is survived by a host of family and friends including, a special friend, Judy Green of Martinsville; one son, Danny Pitman of Peoria, IL; two daughters, Charlotte Schmidt of Paragon and Patsy Pitman of Mooresville; two brothers Leonard A. and Bill D. Pitman both of Orlando, FL; one sister, Dolly McPike of Campbellsburg, IN; eight grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; one daughter, Brenda Wisman; three brothers, Eddie, Roy and James Ellis Pitman; one sister, Devada Smith and one granddaughter.

Family and friends are encouraged to visit on Wednesday, November 4th from 6-8:00 p.m. and from 12-1:00 p.m. on Thursday at Neal & Summers Funeral and Cremation Center. A celebration of life service will be on Thursday at the funeral home at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Nebo Memorial Park Cemetery in Martinsville.
