George Oliver Anderson, the son of Chris and Olive Trask Anderson, was born on February 19, 1923, at Bancroft, Iowa.

He received his education in the country school near Bancroft. His early years were spent helping his parents on the farm east of Bancroft. George served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army from 1943 until 1945. He served in the Solomon Islands, the Philippines and Japan. After his Honorable Discharge from the Army, George worked for area farmers. In 1949, he was married to Ada Dixon at the Lutheran Parsonage in Titonka, Iowa. George helped tear down the Algona P.O.W. Camp in 1946. He worked for the Welp Hatchery in Bancroft for 23 years and also worked for Art’s Way Manufacturing in Armstrong, Iowa for 18 years.

George was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Swea City, Iowa. He also belonged to the McKinnon American Legion Post #377 in Bancroft, where he was a former Commander and also the Kossuth County Commander. He enjoyed hunting, trapping and collecting caps. He was a former Board Member of the Friends of Exceptional Opportunities. George enjoyed people and he and Ada were. Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus in Ledyard for many years. He enjoyed visiting with his many friends and relatives.

George died on Friday, August 24, 2007, at the Avera Holy Family Health Center in Estherville, Iowa. He was 84.

George is survived by his wife, Ada of Ledyard, Iowa and his children, Robert Anderson and wife, Rose, Golden Valley, Arizona, Barbara Anderson, Ledyard, Iowa, and Karen, Jean and Becky Anderson, all of Burt, Iowa. Also surviving are his 2 grandchildren, Eric Flaten, Northwood, Iowa, Jessica Hilborn, Dubuque, Iowa and 3 great grandchildren, Ava, Cora and Ethan.

George was preceded in death by his parents, and 5 sisters, Maretta Anderson, Evelyn Anderson, Hanna Harrison, Arlene Eslinger and Emily Meyers.
