Louise Frieda Andersen was born on December 22, 1916, in rural Woden, Iowa, to Fred and Louise Mayland Baade. She attended school in rural Wesley, Iowa and Guckeen, Minnesota.
Starting at a young age, she worked as a housekeeper for many years. She was a telephone operator in Rolfe, Iowa for a short term.
