Gladys Becker was born March 26, 1911, at Buffalo Center, Iowa, to Robert and Kate (Anderson) DeVries. Gladys graduated from Buffalo Center High School and was married to William Becker on July 7, 1930, at Buffalo Center. The couple moved to Algona in 1956, where Gladys worked for Graham’s Clothing Store. She enjoyed crafts, ceramics, and sewing, was a bridge player but was a Mom, “98% of the time”. She was a member of St. Cecelia Catholic Church and a 50+ year member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary.

Gladys became a resident of the Buffalo Center Care Center for one year before moving to Lakeside Lutheran Home in February, 2004. She died there on Friday morning, February 22, 2008, at the age of 96.

Survivors include her children, Bill Becker and wife Marjorie of Buffalo Center, Iowa; Janice and husband William Willrodt of Chamberland, South Dakota; Jerry Becker and wife Nancy of St. Louis, Missouri; Sue and husband Francis Bjustrom of Algona, Iowa and Judy and husband Dick Bleich of Chandler, Arizona. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren and one sister Ruth Wilson of Sioux City, Iowa, and one brother Dick and wife Evelyn DeVries of Buffalo Center, Iowa. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, her husband William on July 7, 1992, grandsons Mark Adams, John Adams and Bill Becker, Jr., sisters Ethel Oldaker and Elsie Larson and brothers Jim, Charlie, Bob and Jack DeVries.
