William “Bill” Robert Allen was born August 14, 1928, in Algona, Iowa, the son of James and Bernadine (Cavanaugh) Allen. He grew up and attended school in Algona and in 1946, graduated from Algona High School. After his schooling he entered the United States Marine Corps on August 2, 1946, and served his country until March 15, 1948. Upon being honorably discharged from his military service he returned to Algona.
On August 15, 1948, Bill was united in marriage to Janice Hanna in Fairmont, Minnesota. After their marriage the couple lived in Algona where Bill worked at Lindsay EcoWater of Algona. Bill enjoyed watching sports, especially following the Boston Celtics, but his biggest enjoyment came from spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Bill died Monday, May 26, 2008, at his home in Whittemore, Iowa. He was 79.
He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Janice of Whittemore; children, Diane and husband Doug Moehle of Northwood, Iowa; Linda and husband Tom Ristau of Whittemore, Iowa; Nancy and husband Jerry Johnson of Arizona; Jim Allen and wife Mary of Apple Valley, Minnesota; John Allen of Loveland, Colorado; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is his brother, Jack Allen of Des Moines, Iowa.
Preceding Bill in death were his parents and a brother, Dick Allen.
