Dessie Christina Beck was born on September 27, 1920, near Lakota, Iowa to Albert and Johanna Heyens Bosma. She received her education in the rural schools near Ledyard and Lakota. After her schooling, Dessie helped her parents on the farm.

Dessie was married to Kenneth Beck on September 27, 1941, at the First Presbyterian Church in Lakota. The couple farmed near Lakota for over 40 years. They retired in 1985, and moved into Lakota. Dessie’s husband Kenneth preceded her in death on February 12, 1987.

Dessie was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lakota, where she was a member of the Church Circle and the Presbyterian Women. She also belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary in Lakota. Dessie enjoyed traveling, and all types of handiwork. She loved people and enjoyed visiting with her many friends and family. She especially loved being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Dessie died on Tuesday, June 17, 2008, at the Hospice of North Iowa, Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa. She was 87.

Surviving are her children, Robert Beck and his special friend, Judy Hector, Fairmont, Minnesota, Betty McShane, Waseca, Minnesota, Ella Hazelton and husband, Al, Harlan, Iowa, Linda Beck, Odessa, Texas and Dale Beck and wife, Jerrilynn, Norwalk, Iowa. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren, l step grandson, 6 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Dessie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Kenneth, 4 brothers, Herman, Heyo, Albert “Hap”, Edward and 2 sisters, Gertrude Picht and Hannah Wilcox.
