Raymond Harold Baer was born September 26, 1928, in Burt, Iowa, the son of Michael and Mary (Black) Baer. He grew up and attended school in Burt and after his schooling he worked various jobs in the Burt area before joining the military.
Ray served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Upon being honorably discharged from the Army he returned to the Burt area for a short time before moving to Denver, Colorado. Ray worked for Consolidated Freightways in Denver for 22 years before retiring. He remained in the Denver area for a few years before moving to Grand Junction, Colorado, where he lived for 17 years and two and a half years ago he moved to the Parc Hall Care Center in Emmetsburg, Iowa.
He enjoyed reading the newspaper and going to coffee with friends. Ray also enjoyed coming back to the Burt area to visit family and friends and while back visiting Jackpot Junction.
Raymond died Tuesday, December 9, 2008, at the Parc Hall Care Center in Emmetsburg, Iowa. He was 80.
He is survived by his three brothers, Leroy Max Baer of Burt; Gordon Baer and wife Barbara of Algona ; Jim Baer and wife Theresa of Algona; two sisters, Marilyn and husband Melvin Johnson of Burt and Virginia Gaedke of Algona. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Mary Baer and a brother, Ralph Baer.
