Lila Aileen Attig was born December 10, 1920, at Waterloo, Iowa, to Edwin and Emeline (Redmond) Stone, Sr. She was raised by her grandmother Susan Redmond from the time she was four months old. Lila graduated from Britt High School then worked at Ben Franklin store in Britt, Intermill’s Grocery Store, J.C. Penney Store in Algona as well as Winnebago Industries in Forest City.
On February 19, 1950, Lila was united in marriage to Eldon Attig at the Methodist Church in Titonka. They lived in LuVerne, Iowa for one year before returning to Titonka where Eldon was employed at Schutjer Implement. There were no children to this union.
Lila loved to travel, enjoyed reading and working puzzles. She especially liked bus tours to see fall colors. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Titonka, the United Methodist Women, the Titonka Care Center Helpmates, the Christian Women’s Club as well as the Friendly Club. Lila was a “Red Hat Lady” and enjoyed the Quilting Group, too.
Lila died on Friday evening, December 19, 2008, at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt at the age of 88.
Survivors include three nephews, James Brauhn of Linn Grove, Iowa, Edward Attig of Joice, Iowa and Tom Stone of Waterloo, Iowa; two nieces, Ceryl Bushnell of Tuscon, Arizona and Joice Goranson of Forest City, Iowa. Lila was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Eldon on June 12, 1997, brothers Edwin Stone, Jr. and Brewster Stone, grandmother and uncles Del and Lou Redmond of Britt, Iowa.
