Mildred M. Anderson formerly of Swea City, passed away on December 24, 2008 at the age of 93 years at the Timely Mission Care Center in Buffalo Center, Iowa.
Mildred was a practical person and always was concerned for others. She decided long ago that she wanted to help others. She chose to do that by donating her body to the University of Iowa for medical research. She will be buried at a later date in Harrison Township Cemetery, Swea City, Iowa.
Mildred Marie Anderson was born November 22, 1915, on a farm near Scranton, Iowa. She was the daughter of Arbie and Ethel Dillavou Freese. Mildred was baptized into the Christian faith in 1925, at Scranton. Mildred was united in marriage to Harold Anderson in Maryville, Missouri on December 24, 1934. In 1939 she moved to Swea City, Iowa with her husband, Harold and son, Robert. Throughout her years in Swea City, Mildred worked in the grocery store, café and also worked for the Swea City Community School. She was employed at the school for over 25 years, where she worked in the lunch room. Many of the children she served remember her fondly. Mildred was a member of the United Methodist Church in Swea City. She taught Sunday School for many years and belonged to the Ladies Circle. Mildred would help wherever she could by volunteering. In 1988, Mildred was given an award from Governor Branstad for Outstanding Volunteer in the State of Iowa.
Mildred is survived by her son, Robert (Verdene) of Buffalo Center, Iowa, her son, Larry (Devi Stone) of Chino Valley, Arizona, four grandchildren, James (Rhonda) Anderson of Blue Earth, Minnesota, Janet (Paul) Jutting, Buffalo Center, Iowa, Julie (Dean) Balvance, Buffalo Center, Iowa and Jill (Joe) Sanders of Tofte, Minnesota, ten great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.
Mildred was preceded in death by a son, Richard, her husband, Harold, her parents, two brothers and three sisters.
