| | | | Helen Lorraine Anderson was born October 5, 1914, in Algona, Iowa to William J. and Florence Johnson Becker. She has lived most of her life in Algona, being a 50 year member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ.
Helen’s graduating class of 1932, was the first to graduate from the “New High School”, now known as Middle School. She was employed by the Home Federal Savings and Loan when she met her husband, Everett E. Anderson, a partner with his father in the Anderson’s Jack Sprat Grocery. They were married on March 9, 1935, at Elk Point, South Dakota and made their home in Algona. When Helen’s 3 children were older, she worked for several years in the Kossuth County Treasurer’s Office and several years in the Kossuth County Recorder’s Office.
Helen was an accomplished pianist, taking continuing education in music at Des Moines. Many students have enjoyed their lessons and recitals with her. She had held the office of Organist for many years in the Algona Chapter #68, Order of the Eastern Star, where she had been a member for over 50 years. She also enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting and was a former member of the Algona Garden Club. Helen loved writing poetry, which her family has been the loving recipient of, as well as the Algona and Ft. Dodge newspapers.
Helen died at her home in Algona on Friday, October 17, 2003. She was 89.
Helen is survived by her children, Phil G. Anderson and wife, Wanda, Des Moines, Iowa, Marcia Olsen, Minneapolis, Minnesota and Thomas J. Anderson and wife, Cheryl, Osborn, Missouri. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 3 brothers, Carlyle Becker and wife, Orvilla, Algona, Iowa, Dr. William Becker and wife, Sandy, Saltsburg, Pennsylvania, Richard Becker, Kansas City, Missouri and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Everett, three weeks after their 60th Wedding Anniversary, one brother, Dennis Becker and one sister, Florence Dev lin.
