Donald Henry Arndorfer was born February 4, 1922, at St. Benedict, son of Leo and Pauline (Dorweiler) Arndorfer. In 1936, his family moved to a farm northwest of Bancroft and in 1940, he graduated from St. Johns Catholic High School. Don was united in marriage to Mary Jean Johnson on February 20, 1950 at St. Johns Catholic Church in Bancroft. They farmed his family farm and in earlier years as a hobby, Don enjoyed repairing TVs.
In his lifetime, Don loved farming, raising livestock, and annual trips to South Dakota to purchase cattle. He enjoyed driving trips across the United States and trips to Las Vegas where the craps dice never cooled in his hands. Don looked forward to the Kossuth County Fair where he enjoyed watching his children show 4-H cattle for many years. He served on the Kossuth County Fair Barbeque Committee, and was a past Fair Board Director. The County Fair was dedicated to him in 1977.
Don enjoyed watching the Lawrence Welk Show weekly and he had the opportunity to share the stage with the Brooks and Chase at a show in Branson. He was an active member of the Kossuth County Democrats and was the announcer at the Bancroft Lions Baseball games for several years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and St. Johns Catholic Church where he was an usher. Don also served as president of the Kossuth County Cattlemens Association where he was awarded Cattleman of the Year.
