Vera Irene Becker was born on May 7, 1923, near Lakota, Iowa to Henry and Etta Ennen Olthoff. She received her education in the country school near Lakota. Vera was married to Arnold A. Becker on May 5, 1943 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ledyard, Iowa. The couple farmed in the Lakota area.

Vera was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ledyard, where she was also a member of the Rosary Society for many years. She also belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary in Lakota and the Lincoln Friendly Neighbors. Vera was a homemaker and also volunteered for 11 years for the Senior Meals. Her husband, Arnold preceded her in death on June 11, 1982. Vera then worked for the Central Graphics newspaper in Blue Earth, Minnesota for 7 ½ years and in Lakota for 6 years.

She loved to travel and went to every state in the union and also to Europe. She loved gardening and growing flowers, working on word game books and going to parades. She loved her family and enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren participate in all of their activities. She also enjoyed visiting with her many friends and relatives.

Vera died on Saturday, October 10, 2009, at the Fairmont Community Hospital in Fairmont, Minnesota. She was 86.

Surviving are her children, Larry Becker and wife, Sharon, Kansas City, Kansas, Diane Moore and husband, Lloyd, Warsaw, Indiana, Bonnie Booth and husband, Duane, Stanley, Wisconsin, Bernard Becker and wife, Mary, Lakota, Iowa and Mary Shumski and husband, Gary, Granada, Minnesota. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and her brother, Harold Olthoff and wife, Virginia, Buffalo Center, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Arnold, her sister, Ruth Becker and her brother, Mervin Olthoff.
