Lovina Irene Anderson was born on January 29, 1915, at West Union, Iowa, to Ernest Robert and Ethel Mary Allen Ballard. She received her education in West Union, graduating from the West Union High School. Irene then attended Upper Iowa College in Fayette, Iowa for 1 year. During high school and college, Irene had worked for her father in the Photography Business in West Union. Irene was married to Allton E. “Andy” Anderson on May 27, 1936, at her parents’ home in West Union. The couple settled in Lakota, where Irene was a homemaker and Andy was a teacher and coach.
Irene was an active member of the Presbyterian Church in Lakota, where she also belonged to the Circle. She was a member of the Lakota Library Board and the Lakota Acorn Study Club. When she was younger, Irene was a Girl Scout Leader. She enjoyed bowling, fishing, cooking and golfing with her husband. She also enjoyed attending horse shows around the midwest, where her daughter, Cheryl Rae and her family were participants.
Irene became a resident of the Timely Mission Nursing Home in Buffalo Center, Iowa shortly after her husband’s death on November 6, 1995.
Irene died on Tuesday, January 27, 2004, at the District Hospital in Blue Earth, Minnesota. She was 88.
Irene is survived by her 2 daughters, Sherry Lou Peterson and husband, Bud, Swea City, Iowa and Cheryl Rae Ellsworth and husband, Brian, Jefferson, Iowa. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren, Jaime, Jeff and Andy Ellsworth and Tari L. Brandt and husband, Rodney and Todd A. Peterson and wife, Kristi and 5 great grandchildren, Cassidy, Chase and Cierra Brandt and Emily and Megen Peterson. Irene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Andy, one grandson, Jeffrey Peterson and her brother, Allen.
