He received his education in the country schools at Rockwell City, Lake City, Jolley and Algona, Iowa. After his schooling, Art helped his father on the farm and was a truck driver. He was married to Evelyn A. Nickerson on February 8, 1936, at Algona, Iowa. The couple farmed Evelyn’s home place west of Algona until 1964. Art also raised livestock. When he was on the farm, Art enjoyed helping his neighbors, not only with farming, but repairing their equipment when they had breakdowns. Art and Evelyn moved into Algona in 1965, where Art worked for Pioneer until 1978.
Art enjoyed fishing, pheasant and deer hunting, working in his shop, camping with his family and helping his friends and family. He and Evelyn loved to travel and enjoyed 10 winters in Texas. He was also very proud of his red 1964 Mercury.
