Pauline Marie “Polly” Batt was born June 14, 1923, in rural Algona, Iowa, the daughter of Carl and Estella Bristow Seip. She attended country school in Kossuth County and then graduated from Algona High School in 1941.

On July 20, 1941, Pauline was united in marriage to William N. Batt, Jr. in Fairmont, Minnesota. After their marriage the couple lived on the Seip Family Farm in Irvington, Iowa. With William having a military career and the obligations that went with it, Polly would join him when it was permissible. The couple lived in Colorado, New York and Germany before moving to Algona in July of 1966.

Polly was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and a past member of the Algona Garden Club. She enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, doing embroidery and traveling the countryside to take pictures of old barns and new born farm animals.

Pauline died Sunday, April 17, 2005, at her home in Algona, at the age of 81.

She is survived by her children, Roger Batt and his wife Sandy of Algona, Iowa; Pamela and her husband Ron “Red” Frankl of Irvington, Iowa; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Polly was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William, on May 2, 1987; a son, Karl William and a sister, Kate Klein.
