| | | | Anna Mathilde Baumgard was born on May 10, 1912, at LuVerne, Iowa to Karl and Bertha Pergande Schipull. She received her education at the Zion Lutheran Parochial School in LuVerne. After her schooling, Anna helped her family on the farm and also helped the neighbors with child care. Anna was married to Alvin C. Baumgard on November 19, 1944, at LuVerne. The couple lived in Brewster, Minnesota, where they farmed Alvin’s family farm. They moved to Burt, Iowa in the early 1950’s, where Alvin ran a blacksmith shop and Anna kept busy raising their family. She also loomed rugs to earn extra money. Alvin and Anna moved to Algona, Iowa in 1969. Alvin preceded Anna in death in 1993.
Anna was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Algona, where she was active with the Quilting Ladies. She also enjoyed crocheting, reading, embroidery and doing counted cross stitch..
Anna became a resident of the Good Samaritan Communities in Algona on August 1, 2003. She died there on Sunday, June 5, 2005, at the age of 93.
Anna is survived by her daughters, Marjorie Gubbels, Castalia, Ohio and Joyce Grandgenett and husband, Jim, Algona, Iowa. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, her brother, Harold Schipull, LuVerne, Iowa, her sister Eleanora Schroeder and husband, Hans, Clear Lake, Iowa and her brother-in-law, Otto Jagels, Livermore, Iowa. Anna was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son-in-law, Virgil Gubbels, 2 sisters, Lula Jagels and Stella Kirchoff and her brother, Alfred Schipull.
