| | | | Mary Kay Arend was born July 18, 1960, in Algona, daughter of Richard F. and Annette E. (Simpson) Arend. She grew up in Whittemore graduating from Algona High School in 1979.
Mary Kay worked for several years at Reit’s Bakery and then Radig’s Bakery. In 1987, she began working with her brother at Daylight Donuts. Mary was an avid Chicago Cubs and Minnesota Twins fan. She enjoyed watching TV, fishing, listening to country music and helping around the house. She loved spending time with her family and friends especially her two nieces and great-niece.
Mary Kay Arend died Saturday, July 2 2005 at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa, Mason City following complications from a brain aneurism. She was 44.
She is survived by her mother, Annette Arend, Algona; two brothers and one sister, Nick Arend and his wife Deb, Barbara Arend, and Mark Arend, all of Algona; two nieces, Melani Arend, Montrose, IL, and Lindsay Arend, Algona; a great-niece, Riley Baxter, Montrose, IL; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father on May 22, 1999; a sister, Phyllis; and her grandparents
