Anna Anderson was born December 8, 1917, in Kamar, Iowa, the daughter of John and Dena Honken Karels. At a young age her family moved to Bancroft where she attended country school. After her schooling she stayed at home and helped her mother around the house.

On June 27, 1937, Anna was united in marriage to Clarence Anderson in Ledyard, Iowa. After their marriage the couple lived in Bancroft before moving to a farm near Lakota where they lived until moving into Lakota in 1973. Clarence died October 11, 1985. Anna remained in Lakota until moving to Bancroft in 1987, and in 2000 moved to Burt to live with her daughter.

She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and making them tea when they would visit. Anna also enjoyed embroidery, gardening, fishing and going on vacation with her daughters. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Presbyterian Ladies.

Anna died Friday, October 21, 2005, at the Heritage Nursing Home where she had been a resident since August of 2004. She was 87.

She is survived by her daughters, Elaine and husband Gary Gifford of Burt, Iowa; Diane and husband Eugene Hellman of Bancroft, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Ramona Anderson of Algona, Iowa; eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Albert and Arlene Karels of Henderson, Minnesota; Bill and Shirley Karels of Burt, Iowa; Arlene Karels of Lakota, Iowa; sister-in-law, Laura Stecker of Titonka, Iowa; brother-in-law, Leonard Gray of Titonka, Iowa, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Herman Anderson; sister, Minnie Boeckholt; brothers, Andrew, Otto, Arend and twin brother, John.
