Joyce Terry, 85, died October 6, following a brief illness. Joyce was a long-time resident of Algona and had moved to Idaho in June of 2005 to live with her son, Tom Dailey.

Joyce Ellen Sorensen was born August 4, 1921, in rural Humboldt, Iowa daughter of Christian T. and Sophie A. (Schultz) Sorensen. She graduated from Bradgate High School in 1939. In 1942 she married Doyle Dailey. They farmed in the Bradgate area until 1957 when they moved to Newton, Iowa where they owned the Mid-Iowa Motel. In 1959 they moved to Algona and built the Algona Lanes bowling alley in partnership with Robert Riedel. This began her love of bowling which she continued to enjoy until days before her death. Joyce later drove the school bus for the Algona school district from 1972 until 1984.

Doyle died from a heart attack in 1977. In 1984 Joyce was remarried, to Robert Terry of Pocahontas. They enjoyed 9 years of marriage, including becoming “snowbirds” at their mobile home in Phoenix, Arizona. Joyce was widowed again when Robert died from cancer in 1993.

Joyce is survived by her children, Tim (Charlene) Dailey of Cincinnati, Ohio, Tom Dailey of Paul, Idaho, Terry Dailey of St. Louis, Missouri, and Marj (Russ) Slevin of Des Moines, Iowa, six grandchildren, three great grandchildren, a brother, Gerald (Beverly) Sorensen of Des Moines, and her beloved dog, Lucy.

A memorial service will be held Friday, October 13, at 1:30 p.m. at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, Algona. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any memorials be directed to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.
