Ronald J. Bauer, 71, of Burt died Sunday, October 15, 2006, at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

A funeral Mass will be held Thursday at 10:30 AM at St. Cecelia Catholic Church, Algona, with Father Paul Eisele officiating. Burial will be in Burt Township Cemetery, Burt with military honors conducted by the Lone Rock American Legion Post # 557.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 PM Wednesday at Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, Algona with a rosary beginning at 4:30 PM and a scripture prayer service beginning at 7 PM.

Ronald Jack Bauer, son of Merlin and Delpha (Wood) Bauer was born June 18, 1935 in Iowa City, Iowa. He graduated from Bennett High School in 1952. Following graduation, he attended Iowa Teachers College in Cedar Falls. Ron honorably served in country during the Korean War from 1954 to 1957 in the United States Marine Corps. On December 15, 1995, Ron was united in marriage to Barbara Dugan in McGregor, Iowa.

Ron worked at International Harvester, Caterpillar and owned his own business in Bennett, Iowa. In 1998, he retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Rock Island, IL following 18 years of service. He and Barb then moved to Burt where he was actively involved in the community. He coached the Burt Little League and Pony League teams for 3 years and enjoyed watching “his” boys grow into young men. Ron enjoyed being outdoors fishing, gardening, and raising flowers. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye’s football fan.

Ron served as Commander of the Lone Rock American Legion Post 557 and was instrumental in establishing the Veterans’ Memorial Monument which was dedicated in August, 2005. He was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America and a member of the St. Cecelia Catholic Church, Algona.

He is survived by his wife Barbara of Burt; a son, Brad of Walcott, Iowa; one brother, Gerald Bauer and his wife Carolyn of Wheatland; a sister-in-law, Connie Bauer of Cedar Rapids; many nieces and nephews; and a good friend “Brother” John Person of Lone Rock. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Brian; a sister, Nadine Spengler, and a brother, LeRoy Bauer.

Ron with his positive outgoing personality was loved dearly by his family and friends and will be greatly missed.
