Emma Marie Louise Fritz was born August 24, 1913 on the family farm near Woden, Iowa. She was the daughter of Albert and Mary (Sprick) Fritz. Growing up, Emma attended Buffalo Township country school.
Emma was united in marriage to Jerry H. Boekelman on February 14, 1934 at Good Hope Lutheran Church in Titonka. They farmed north of Titonka until retiring in 1975. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, and raising flowers. She collected salt and pepper shakers and embroidered a pillow case for each of her grandchildren. Emma was presently the oldest member of Good Hope Lutheran Church and was active in the Ladies Aid, the Church Circle, and in Bible Study. She was also a member of the German Valley Card Club, the Ladies Auxiliary, the Titonka Senior Citizens, and the Titonka Help Mates. She enjoyed her family coming out to the farm on Sunday afternoons for tea and she always had her candy dish full for the grandchildren. Emma also enjoyed handing out jelly beans to her visitors at the Titonka Care Center.
Emma’s focus in life was dedicated to her family, her church and God. She relished the simple things in life and will be remembered as a hardworking, gentle, and caring lady. She always had a smile on her face and never had a negative thing to say about anyone or anything.
Emma Boekelman died Thursday, October 22, 2009 at the Titonka Care Center at the age of 96. She had been a resident there since October, 2006.
