Herman Louis Faber was born May 11, 1924, in rural Bode, Iowa, the son of Mathias and Anna (Fuhrmann) Faber. He attended school at St. Joseph Catholic School and after his schooling he worked at home on the farm.
In 1945, Herman joined the United States Army and served until 1947. Upon his honorable discharge from the Army he returned to the St. Joseph area and started farming, which he continued to do until his retirement in 1988.
Herman enjoyed being and working on the farm, hunting, fishing and playing cards. He was a member of the American Legion, St. Joseph Knights of Columbus and the St. Joseph Parish.
Herman died Saturday, November 7, 2009, at the Algona Manor Care Center. He was 85.
He is survived by his sister, Arlene and her husband Clete Salz of Algona; sisters-in-law, Mary Faber of Algona, Maggie Faber of Algona and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Ernest, Raymond, Joseph, Raphael and Florian Faber; five sisters, Alvina, Lydia, Bernadine and Leona Faber and Mary Salz.
