Charles Ralph Wolff, Jr., 94, retired Civil Engineer and former resident of Towson Drive, died Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at Life Care Center.

A graveside service will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. Saturday at Rose Hill Cemetery with Rev. Buddy Roberts officiating. Military honors will be provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com.

A native of Waycross, Georgia, he was the son of the late Charles Ralph Wolff, Sr. and Irene Goodrich Wolff. On January 30, 1942 he married Martha Lumsden Wolff who preceded him in death on April 4, 2002. He was a 1939 graduate of Georgia Tech and was employed by TVA prior to World War II. A Lieutenant in the U. S. Navy during World War II, he was stationed at Okinawa where he was a member of the Seabees. He moved to Columbia in 1979 from Saginaw, Michigan and retired as an Associate member of Halzelet & Erdal Consulting Engineers in 1981. He was a member of Graymere Country Club, Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19, and the American Society of Civil Engineers. Mr. Wolff was a member and had served on the Session of Westminster Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by one son, Charles Ralph (Karen) Wolff, III of Charlotte, NC.
