James Henry Greene

Of Hamburg,NY,December 6, 2003, beloved husband of Joyce (Kazmierczak)Greene;loving father of Sharon (Roland) Kennedy and James J. (Jean)Greene; dear brother of Mary (Douglas) Pease, Richard (Mary) Greene, Jean (Joseph) McNeil, william (Joan), Donald (Patricia), Mary Lou (late Pierce) and the late John M.Greene; cherished grandfather of Nancy, Keri-Lynn, Christopher, Jean-Marie and Roland Kennedy; great-grandfather of Nicholas Flynn. The family will be present to receive friends Monday 7-9Pm and Tuseday 2-4 and 7-9PM at the O'CONNELL-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 2286 South Park Ave. Where Funeral Services will be held Wednesday at 10:00AM. Father Robert Hora,officiating. Mr. Greene was a WW II U.S. Marine veteran. Interment in Nativity Cemetery. James H. Greene, of Hamburg, a retired sales and manufacturing representative and World War II veteran, died Saturday (Dec. 6, 2003) in Veterans Affairs Medical Center after a lengthy illness. He was 82.
Born in East Hamburg, which is now Orchard Park, Greene later attended Buffalo Technical High School.

He served in the 4th Marine Division from July 1942 to October 1945, attaining the rank of sergeant. He saw action on Saipan, Tinian, the Marianas Islands and Iwo Jima, receiving a commendation for excellence in the performance of duty while under fire.

He worked initially as a sales rep for Bee Dee Distributors of Buffalo, then went on to Original Importing Co. of New York City. In 1986, he retired as a manufacturer's rep for Perlick Co. of Milwaukee.

Greene was a life member of Bett-Toomey Detachment, Marines Corps League, in Lackawanna; Hamburg Township Post 1419, Veterans of Foreign Wars; and Hamburg Post 527, American Legion.

He also was a member of the Lake Shore Goodfellows Club and the Hamburg Lions.

He was a devoted attendee of the Erie County Fair and largely was responsible for keeping his family's annual picnic going for the last 50 years.

Surviving are his wife of 39 years, the former Joyce Kazmierczak; a daughter, Sharon Kennedy of Buffalo; a son, James J. of Buffalo; two sisters, Mary Pease of Buffalo and Jean McNeil of the Town of Tonawanda; three brothers, Richard of Buffalo, William of Cheektowaga and Donald of West Seneca; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in O'Connell-Murphy Funeral Home, 2286 South Park Ave. Burial, with military honors, will be in Nativity Cemetery, Orchard Park.
