ELMER E. BLICHER

Elmer Blicher, age 93, of Chippewa Falls, WI, died Saturday, May 31, 2008 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Chippewa Falls.

Elmer Elias Blicher was born on January 13, 1915 in Latimer, Iowa to Rev. Peter and Anna M. (Bille) Blicher. He was baptized Feb. 14, 1915 by his father, Rev. Peter Blicher. In June 1917, the family moved to a farm north of Menomonie, in Sherman Township. Elmer worked on the home farm and for other farmers, and drove truck for 13 years.

January 3, 1942 Elmer enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force, attending Curtiss Wright Technical Institute four months, for airplane mechanics, in Glendale, CA. He then went to Long Beach Army Air Field, with the 52nd Ferrying Squadron at Long Beach, CA where he was crew chief and flight engineer. Elmer transferred to the C.B.I.-China, Burma, India, the first eight months in India with the Air Transport Command, transferring to China in December 1944. On Nov. 15, 1945, he was discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Elmer farmed until 1982, the last 30 years in the Colfax area. Elmer always enjoyed hunting from age 10 to age 70. From 1986 to 1996, Elmer traveled all the western states and several eastern states. He also traveled to Hawaii, Mexico, Canada and Alaska.

Since 1957, Elmer was a member of the Colfax Lutheran Church. He was also a member of the Colfax American Legion Post 0131.

A daughter, Sandra (Tom) Grensing of Chippewa Falls
16 grandchildren
10 great-grandchildren

Victoria Boyesen of Orlando, FL
Doris Lepak of Naperville, IL
Alpha Lierman of Eau Claire
Also survived by other relatives and friends

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Hans, Paul and Peter Jr., one sister Dagmar C. Frank and a son, Ronald E. Blicher.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, June 5, 2008 at Colfax Lutheran Church in Colfax, WI with Pastor Leslie Walck officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 12:00 noon until the time of the service. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in the Town of Menomonie, Dunn Co., WI with military honors by Menomonie Veterans Honor Guard. Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie is serving the family.
