Allen John Andress, age 82, of Menomonie, WI died Friday, August 15, 2008 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN.
He was born July 25, 1926 in Beaver Brook Township, Washburn Co., WI to Norman and Eva (Powell) Andress. After his parents death, Allen was raised by his aunt and uncle, Florence and Perry McHenry in New Auburn, WI.
Al served in the U.S. Navy from July 29, 1943 to March 18, 1946 receiving the Asiatic Pacific 2 stars, American Area and Victory Medal. He then farmed for a few years, until reenlisting in the U.S. Army, serving from Sept. 21, 1949 to June 22, 1954. He received the Army Occupation Medal (Japan), the Korean Service Medal, 5 Bronze Service Stars, the United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.
On May 6, 1953, Al married Fusako Tatemichi at the American Embassy in Tokyo, Japan. They returned to Menomonie, where Al worked for many years for Menomonie Water Dept. until he was unable to work because of an injury at home.
Al was a member of the Menomonie Moose Lodge 1584 and D.A.V. Chapter 26. Al enjoyed visiting with friends, telling stories and drinking lots of coffee. He was a simple man but genuine. He loved his grandchildren and great-grandchild, and will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

And also survived by nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Norma Rudiger, three half sisters, Opal Dahle, Echo Mattison and Evelyn Johnson, and two half brothers, William Powell and Rudy Andress.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, August 18, 2008 at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie, with Rev. Steve Crites officiating. Burial will be in Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner, WI with military honors. Visitation at the funeral home will be one hour prior to the service on Monday.
