CYRIL J. BARTON

Cyril “Cy” James Barton of Boyceville, WI went to be with the Lord on Jan. 25, 2009, at the age of 81, after a courageous battle with Congested Heart Failure and Bone Cancer.

He was born on July 25, 1927 in Grey Eagle, MN to Adolph Edward Barton and Mary Elizabeth Humlicek. After graduating from grade school in Glencoe, MN, Cyril moved to St. Paul, MN with his parents. At the age of 18 he volunteered for the Army. His date of enlistment was Dec. 27, 1945 at Fort Bragg, NC. His military occupation specialty was Military Policeman 577, and his military qualification was Rifle M 1 – SS. Citations he received were the Occupation Medal (Germany) and the World War II Victory Medal. The date of his departure to France was March 23, 1946 and returned to the USA August 24, 1948. Cyril attended the Military Policeman School EUCOM APO 154 Stuttgart, Germany. After leaving the Army he worked mostly as a mechanic and worked for the Railroad (Soo Line) for 17 years in St. Paul, MN. When they moved to Menomonie, Cyril worked for Richartz Implement, Green Thumb and Retz Implement in Boyceville.

Cyril was a life member of the American Legion, VFW and DAV of Menomonie, WI.

Cyril first married Bronislava Olchawa of Poland. They moved from Heidelburg, Germany to St. Paul, MN in 1948. After his first wife Bernice passed away in 1960, he later married Vivian Mae Hoage Traxler in 1964, in St. Paul.

His children, Adolph (Mary) Barton of Covington, WA, Ann (James) Walner of St. Paul, MN, Michael Barton of Richfield, MN and Irene Matson of Frazee, MN.
Step-children, Marshall (Rita) Traxler of Boyceville, Rita Cook of New Richmond and Jane (Galen) Heutmaker of Woodville.
Fifteen grandchildren, Brian Barton of Anchorage, AK, Brent Barton of Tigard, OR, Christina Anderson of Detroit Lakes, MN, John Matson of Durham, NC, Michael Barton Jr. of Richfield, MN, James Walner, Daniel Walner and David Walner of South St. Paul, MN, Eric Traxler of Eau Claire, Jason Traxler of Menomonie, Tamera Wittmer of Emerald, Jesse Barton of Woodville, Gary Lee Evenson Jr. of New Richmond, Ryan Evenson of Madison and Natalie Evenson of Eau Claire.
15 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephew and brother-in-law Garry (Sally) Hoage and sister-in-law Sharon Smith.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, his parents, his brother Jerome, and son James Joseph Barton.

There will be a visitation from 4:00 to 6:00 PM Friday, Jan. 30, 2009 at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie where there will be a Prayer Service at 6:00 PM with Father Joseph Raja officiating. Spring burial will be in Our Savior’s Lutheran Cemetery in the Town of Hay River, Dunn Co., WI with military honors.
