Lowell E. “Bandy” Bandelow, age 72, of Menomonie, formerly of St. Paul, MN died Monday, September 9, 2002 at Lakeside Nursing & Rehabilitation in Chippewa Falls, WI after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.
He was born Oct. 8, 1929 in Neillsville, WI to Leland and Isla (Rowe) Bandelow. He attended school in Neillsvile and finished high school in Menomonie after moving here with his family in 1944. Bandy served in the National Guard from 1947 to 1948 and U.S. Navy from 1948 to 1968. He is a plank owner of the USS Hunley and resided in Dunoon, Scotland for several years. He retired from the Navy as Chief Petty Officer after 20 years of service.
Lowell married the former Esther Travor and after her death he later married Ramona (Jensen) Wald in 1983.
After retiring from the Navy, Bandy worked as a car supply distributor and then sold Buff and Shine car wash equipment locally and internationally. He lived in St. Paul, MN for many years and returned to the Menomonie area a year ago.
He was a member of the V.F.W. and American Legion in St. Paul, MN and a member of the Moose Lodge in Menomonie. He was also a member of the Navy Fleet Reserve. Bandy was an avid card player. He was an animal lover, especially his “Kat”, and loved spending time with his grandchildren.

and other relatives and friends
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leland and Isla Bandelow; his first wife, Esther, and brother-in-law, James Oberle.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002 at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie, with Rev. JoAnne Wendt officiating. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery in the Town of Menomonie, with Military Honors by the Menomonie Veterans Honor Guard. Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 PM Friday and an hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
