Jane E. Betterley, age 85, of Menomonie passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 9, 2005 at the Dunn County Health Care Center in Menomonie after a courageous battle with cancer. Jane’s husband, Ralph and daughters, Ann and Nancy were with her. Jane was born November 29, 1919 in Marshfield, Wisconsin to Albert and Marjorie (Whitfield) Ecke. She attended elementary school in Menomonie and graduated from Eau Claire High School in 1936. She continued her education at UW-Stout and graduated in 1941. Jane taught high school Clothing and Textiles in Appleton, Wisconsin for 1 ½ years. She married Ralph E. Betterley of Elmwood, Wisconsin on December 19, 1942. In 1952, they moved to Evanston, Illinois. Ralph taught at Northwestern University and the American Foundrymen’s Society. Jane worked at Marshall Fields in patterns and fabrics. Upon retirement, Jane and Ralph moved back to Menomonie. They wintered in Bradenton, Florida for twelve years. Jane was active in her churches and P.E.O. Chapters in Menomonie and Evanston. She enjoyed sewing, needlepoint, cooking, baking and entertaining. She was full of energy; always ready to do the next task. Her kindness, sweetness and generosity spread to everyone she met. She was devoted to her family, grandchildren and friends. The family wishes to give special thanks to the kind staff at the Dunn County Health Care Center and to all her very special and supportive friends. Please know that your loving attention to Jane has been greatly appreciated. Jane is survived by: Her husband, Ralph of Menomonie 2 daughters Nancy (Mike) Maxwell of Mission Viejo, CA Ann (Jim) Donia of St. Charles, IL 5 grandchildren Jennifer Maxwell of San Diego, CA; Caroline (Serge) Gudowski of Mission Viejo, CA; Lindy Donia of Nashville, TN ; Joey Donia of Des Moines, IA; Luke Donia of St. Charles, IL A sister-in-law, Ruth (Lawrence) Bock of Spring Valley, WI Nieces and nephews Alice Betterley of Iowa City, IA; Jeff (Nona) Bock of River Falls, WI; David (Lori) Bock of Minong, WI; Rich Betterley of Boynton Beach, FL; Judy House of Roseville, MN; Denny Ecke of Great Bend, KS And other relatives and friends She is preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Al Ecke; a sister-in-law, June Ecke; and a granddaughter, Melanie Jane Donia. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 18, 2005 at First Congregational Church in Menomonie with Rev. Rob MacDougall and Rev. Maynard Larson officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Menomonie. Family and friends are welcome from 4:00 until 8:00 PM on Friday, June 17 at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie and from 10:00 AM until time of services Saturday at the church. Memorials are suggested to First Congregational Church, P.E.O. Chapter AN or U.W. Stout Foundation. | ||
