CLIFFORD D. BLOOM

Clifford D. Bloom, age 93, of Menomonie, WI died Friday, December 06, 2002 at the Dunn County Health Care Center in Menomonie.

He was born on August 29, 1909 in White Bear Lake, MN. He was the second of Jacob and Aurora (Millette) Bloom’s five children. In 1936, he married Pauline Rittgeres in Princeton, MO.

Clifford graduated from White Bear Lake High School in 1927 and attended Macalister College for one year. He then attended the University of Minnesota graduating in 1932 with a degree in architecture. It was the depression and architecture jobs were scarce so he went to work for Montgomery Wards. This started a career that lasted 41 years. He was a store manager for 35 years in Belle Fourche, SD; Spencer, IA; Denison, IA; Brainerd, MN; and finally in Menomonie, WI.

He retired from Wards in 1973 and enjoyed six years of retirement including trips to Florida with his brother and sister-in-law, Conrad and Dorothy. In 1979, Clifford joined Miller Real Estate and worked as a salesman for 15 years.

Although not using his architecture degree as a vocation, he designed several houses, a golf course clubhouse, and a Sunday school building. One of his greatest enjoyments was playing golf to his sons and grandchildren. At the University of Minnesota, he played on the golf team and earned a letter.

Clifford is survived by:
2 sons: Barry (Julie) and Robert (Lynn)
2 sisters: Marcella Frampton and Aurora (Harlan) Shull
4 grandchildren: Clifford (Colleen), Corey (Wendy), Jacob (Stacy) and Benjamin
1 great-grandchild: Thor
Several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Aurora; his wife of 58 years, Pauline; a sister, Selena; and a brother, Conrad.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM on Sat., Dec. 14, 2002 at the United Methodist Church in Menomonie with the Rev. Marilyn Rushton officiating. Friends are welcome from 10:30 until time of services at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be given to the United Methodist Church in Menomonie. Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie is serving the family.
