SUSAN TRACY (LONG) MUELLER

Susan T. Mueller passed away at Glenhaven Care Center, Glenwood City, WI on Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2009 due to secondary progressive Multiple Sclerosis. She was born May 30, 1958 in Ames, IA, where she attended school until 1966 when the family moved to Libertyville, IL. Susan graduated from Libertyville High School in 1976, then attended Iowa Wesleyan College, Mt. Pleasant, IA, where she joined Alpha Xi Delta Sorority. She graduated with a BA in History in 1980, then went on to achieve an M.Ed at the University of Northern Illinois, DeKalb, IL, in 1982. She taught Special Education in the McHenry, IL high school where she met and married fellow Special Ed. Teacher, Kenneth E. Mueller. She also taught at the grade school in Cary, IL. Upon moving to Menomonie, WI, she taught Special Ed in the public schools. The family moved to Glenwood City where she was able to substitute in that school system until the effects of the disease took over her body. In July of 2006 she had to move to the care center due to the crippling effect of the MS. While there she received the utmost competent and compassionate care.

Susan will be remembered for her loving care of her family: son Cpl. Eric Richard, serving with the U.S.M.C., first with 8th Communications Battalion, II Marine Expeditionary Force in Camp Lejeune, NC, and then deployed to Camp Fallujah, Iraq in 2007. Eris is currently stationed with MASS-2, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, Okinawa, Japan. Son Kenneth James “K.J.” is a junior at North Dakota State University, Fargo, ND. Daughter Katelyn Anne is a freshman at Iowa Wesleyan College, Mt. Pleasant, IA. Husband Kenneth, continues teaching Special Education at Menomonie Middle School.

Her interests were many, including gardening, working with their family pets, volunteering at the Red Cedar Animal Shelter and being a Sunday School Teacher while in Menomonie, and being a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Chapter LL, in Libertyville, IL and Chapter AN in Menomonie, WI.

Surviving is her husband of 25 years, Ken Mueller, Glenwood City, WI, and their three children, her parents, Jim and Lois Long of Lake View, IA, sister Linda (Mrs. C.P.) Pierce of Columbus Junction, IA, brother Fredrick (wife Shannon) of Wilmore, KY, mother-in-law Gloria Mueller of Bayonet Point, FL, sister-in-law Sue (Mrs. Tom) Sloan of Gilberts, IL, brother-in-law Richard (wife Kathy) of Carefree, AZ, brother-in-law Chris of Hudson, FL. She was aunt to: Justin Pierce at Iowa State University, Ames, IA, Rachel Pierce of Columbus Junction, IA, Hannah, Nathan, Gabrielle, Samuel and David Long of Wilmore, KY, Monica (Mrs. Jim) Rice and children, Haley, Peyton and Zoe, of Algonquin, IL, Michelle (Mrs. Mark) Furchstam and children, Julia and Isabela, of Rockton, IL, Natalie (Mrs. Mitch) Pendergrass and children, Colin and Caden, of Elgin, IL, John Yunker and son, John, of Elgin, IL, Mike Yunker of Carpentersville, IL, and Amanda (Mrs. Broache) Snodgrass and son, Dylan, of Galesburg, IL.

A visitation will be held from 3:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday, Sept. 4, 2009 at Olson Funeral Home, 615 Wilson Ave., Menomonie, WI 54751. The funeral service will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009 at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 420 Wilson Ave., Menomonie, WI 54751, with visitation at the church one hour prior to the service.
