RICHARD “DICK” G. FRUIT

Richard (Dick) George Fruit, age 69, passed away Thursday, September 3rd, at home surrounded by his family, after having major heart surgery in June and having a short battle with leukemia. Dick was born January 18, 1940 to Richard N Fruit and Frances (House) Fruit in the town of Menomonie, WI. His parents farmed near Wheeler, then moved to a Colfax farm, and then to the town of Sherman. He attended Roach Elementary School, and graduated from Dunn County Aggie High School. He was in the Wisconsin National Guard Company A with active duty during the Berlin crisis. He was united in marriage to Marilyn Fayerweather on February 14, 1959. He did farm work for Alfred Vennes, and was a bulldozer operator for Clarence Lorenz for 3 years. He worked for the Dunn County Highway Department as a Heavy Equipment Operator for 22 years, and performed road maintenance for the Town of Sherman for 22 years.

He was a member of 4H, FFA, United Methodist Church, Bounders United, Great River Roos Camping Club, the Moose Lodge, American Legion, and Talkeetna Historical Society.

He served on the Sherman Town Board, the Dunn County Board, and as a church trustee and youth leader. He was active in the AFCME union, on both the local and state level.

Dick loved traveling, camping, hunting, fishing, hiking, and reflecting on spiritual life through nature’s varied and beautiful scenery.

The most meaningful events in Dick’s life were accepting Christ, his marriage, and the birth of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Dick is survived by Marilyn, his wife of 50 years; mother Frances; sister, Helen (Duane) Fayerweather of Stillwater, MN; brother, Kurt (Joyce) of Darby, MT; sister-in-law, Carole Fruit of Jackson, MI; sons, David (Debbie) of Menomonie, and Donald (Amy) of LaCrosse; daughter Denise (Randy) Stalker of Hudson; 7 Grandchildren, Aaron (Jennie) Fruit, Adam (Rachel) Fruit, Dan Stalker, Sarah Stalker, Jason Fruit, Stacie Fruit, Alissa Fruit; and 2 great granddaughters, Aimee Fruit and Abigayle Fruit.

He was preceded in death by his father Richard N, brother Lee, infant brother Lyle, and foster daughter Kim (Jarosch) Falk.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, Sept. 10, 2009 at United Methodist Church in Menomonie, with Pastor Don Gribble officiating. Burial will be in Sherman Cemetery in the Town of Sherman, Dunn Co., WI with military honors by Harmon-Harris American Legion Post 314. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie and at the church one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
